Anastrozole (Arimidex®) is used in the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. It is a member of the selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs).
Anastrozole is a member of the aromatase inhibitor class of drugs, which lowers estrogen levels in the body. This can reduce the risk of developing hormone-sensitive breast cancer. It can be used in combination with anandamide (exertion), diethylstilbiestrol (DES), or astemizole (exertion) for individuals who are at high risk of developing breast cancer.
Anastrozole is also used in women who have had a hysterectomy due to the presence of endometrial or uterine cancer, a condition that can cause heavy bleeding during or after an operation. It can reduce the risk of developing endometrial cancer by 50% and breast cancer by 30%.
Anastrozole may be used alone or in combination with other therapies to treat hormone-receptor-positive or hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.
The drug is available in the dosage strength of anastrozole 10 mg and anastrozole 5 mg tablets. Anastrozole 5 mg tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of anastrozole (Arimidex®) on the prevention of fracture in osteoporosis patients. Thirty patients with osteoporosis were randomly allocated to receive either 1 of the following groups:
Group A - Control group, in which patients had a normal diet;
Group B - Anastrozole group, in which anastrozole was administered by mouth in addition to anastrozole. Patients were monitored for the occurrence of fractures and adverse events.
The results of the study were expressed as percentage of patients receiving the treatment group, using the following tables:

Anastrozole(Arimidex)
Brand Name(s): Arimidex(Arimidex), Anastrozole
Uses:
Arimidex is primarily used to reduce the amount of breast cancer cells in the breast tissue. It can also be used to prevent or slow the growth of invasive breast cancer in women who have not responded to tamoxifen. Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). It works by blocking the effects of estrogen on the cells that line the estrogen-sensitive parts of the brain. By doing so, Arimidex helps reduce the growth of certain types of breast cancer cells, including slow growing and slow-growing breast cancer, and can be used in some cases where there is no response to tamoxifen. This medication is also used in women who have a history of breast cancer. Arimidex can also be used in some cases of advanced breast cancer to prevent cancer from returning from the ovaries. It can also be used to treat postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer when tamoxifen is not an option. Arimidex should not be used in children.
